Man charged with vandalizing local cemetery, town hall and park

FREEDOM TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man was arrested, charged with several cases of vandalism, after an investigation by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff David Doak said Stephen R. Griggs, 44, is accused of vandalizing several areas in Freedom Township on the night of July 9 and the early morning of July 10.

Areas include the Drakesburg Cemetery, the Freedom Town Hall, the Freedom Township Park and mailboxes at several homes.

Authorities said Griggs was identified as a person of interest; then, an arrest warrant was obtained and he was taken into custody on Friday.

Griggs was charged with three counts of vandalism; those are all 5th degree felonies. He’s being held at the Portage County Jail with no bond.
