A Lorain County man, who was injured in an explosion at Diamond Products in Elyria on Friday, has been charged with aggravated arson.

Police say 50-year-old Robert Shaw suffered facial burns in the blast, when he allegedly mixed chemicals together in his own office.

A small army of officers and agents from various law enforcement agencies later went to Shaw's home in LaGrange Township, and discovered that he had allegedly taken some of the volatile substances from work to his home. One nearby resident, who did not want to be identified, told Fox 8, "My first reaction was, if something is going on, and you guys are making this big of a ruckus, then I'm getting my kids out of here."

Some residents of LaGrange were angered when they learned why Robert Shaw had been mixing chemicals. According to Lorain County authorities, he was attempting to make exploding targets for firearm target practice.  "I understand that some people have hobbies, but when you're mixing chemicals, and you're mixing stuff, and I don't care if you have a degree, you're a professional, if it's a hobby, whatever it is, I don't want that around where I live," said one neighbor.

Authorities have not specified what they found at Shaw's home, but nearby residents are relieved the substances have been removed or destroyed.  "You know, in a way, I was relieved. I hate to say that ... he had an accident, so that it was brought to everyone's attention," said the neighbor.

Robert Shaw is being held in the Lorain County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Elyria Municipal Court.
