BRYAN, Ohio — She disappeared nearly 14 years ago near a high school in Milwaukee.

Now, rumors are swirling on social media that Alexis Patterson, who would now be 21, is an adult, living in Bryan, Ohio.

WITI reports that Patterson went missing May 3, 2002. On July 8, WITI reports that Milwaukee police received a tip from someone in Ohio claiming he believes a woman he knows is Patterson.

WISN reports that the tip came from the woman’s ex-husband.

DNA tests were done to determine if it’s true. There is no estimate as to when the DNA tests will be complete.

A statement released to WITI on Monday stated: “There is no evidence at this time to suggest that the person in Ohio is Alexis Patterson.”

The woman in question cooperated with police but does not  believe she is Patterson. She provided a birth certificate and a passport, said police, that do not list her name as Alexis Patterson.

A friend of the Patterson family, Babette Hoskins, tells WITI she is waiting to see official proof before jumping to conclusions.

Alexis Patterson was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket with gray stripes, a purple shirt, blue jeans and white Nike tennis shoes. Police over the years have released age-progressed photos of Patterson, pointing out she has a scar below her right eye.

The Sheriff’s Office is still offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to her return. Anyone with any information regarding Alexis’ case can call the Sheriff’s Office at(414) 278-4788.
