Man Arrested Over Public Official Threat

JACKSON TOWNSHIP– A man was arrested, accused of making threats against a public official.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Jeffrey B. Hatfield, Jr. was making threats of violence to Summit County Clerk of Courts Daniel Horrigan.

Authorities said an investigation revealed that Hatfield had made several threats over the phone to Horrigan.

When confronted by law enforcement, Hatfield admitted to the threats and stated his intention to carry out the threat of assault against Horrigan.

Summit County Sheriff’s deputies and Jackson Township police officers located Hatfield at his Jackson Township residence.

Authorities say during the arrest, Hatfield resisted and tried to get access to a firearm.

He was charged with intimidation of a public official, assault on a peace officer and obstructing official business.

Hatfield was booked into the Stark County Jail.
