MENTOR, Ohio- Mentor police said they arrested a man for trying to lure a child into his car.

According to police, on Oct. 10, officers received a complaint from the parent of an 11-year-old who was walking the family dog on Taft St.

The parent reported that the child was approached by a man driving a silver Buick LeSabre with damage to the left bumper.

The man asked the child, “Want to get in?”

When the child refused, the man took off.

Officers later found him still driving around the same neighborhood. Officers said the man, identified as Steven Randall, 47, of Mentor, claimed he was driving around looking for his ex-girlfriend.

He admitted to police he had a conversation with the child and the child later positively identified him.

Police said because of previous arrests for similar offenses and the age of the victim, Randall was charged with felony child enticement.
