LYNDHURST, Ohio -- Lyndhurst police believe a Mentor man assaulted a woman who is nine-months pregnant during a road rage incident Saturday afternoon.

Frank Nerone, Jr., 54, is charged with one count of misdemeanor assault.

"Very aggressive, lots of pointing, calling names, I didn't see any damage between the two vehicles so I was really surprised at why he was so enraged. I didn't know why he was so enraged," said Chris Bruns, who aided the victim during the incident.

Police said Nicole Childs, the pregnant woman, was driving a pick-up truck on Mayfield Road about noon when it happened.

According to the police report, "Nicole stated a white male cut her off and abruptly stopped in front of her. Nicole stopped to keep from hitting the motor vehicle..."

Childs told police the man was cussing and screaming racial slurs at her.

"He was very threatening to her, and she wasn't a particularly threatening individual, so I don't know why his level of aggression was so high," Bruns said.

According to the police report, Childs says the guy pushed her and she fell back, hitting her back on the door frame, then the door hit her stomach. The man admitted to pushing the door.

According to the report, Nerone told police, "I pushed the door closed and kept telling her to just go home."

Bruns said he went to help Childs.

She asked him to stay with her until police arrived, which he did.

Police said they found Nerone in a nearby store and arrested him for misdemeanor assault.

He is due in court July 16.
