MACEDONIA, Ohio -- Keeping drivers safe meant shutting down a main Macedonia roadway on Sunday.

Macedonia authorities had to stop traffic on a stretch of Ledge Road, and it's not the first time recently. The situation has caused some headaches for drivers, not to mention detours.

"I have to go all the way around to get back on the freeway," said Mike Miliacci, who lives on Ledge Road.

According to police, Sunday's closure is due to some loose fencing at the Norfolk Southern rail bridge, near North Freeway Drive.

A Norfolk Southern spokesperson tells Fox 8 a car's bumper is to blame for the situation.

"It's a hazard, it's a problem to commuters and it's a problem to people who walk the street also," said one driver.

This isn't the first talk of safety concerns and a road shutdown on Ledge Road.

The roadway had just reopened days ago, after earlier in October, debris smashed into a driver's windshield.

Stone beneath the track was the cause of that issue, according to Norfolk Southern, so they added the fencing to prevent any more problems.

"You kind of cross your fingers when you drive through and hope nothing happens," said one driver, who was rerouted Sunday.

Frustrated drivers explain they don't know if Ledge Road is going to be open or closed at any given time, and it's messing with their commutes.

But many agree, it's a small price to pay to stay safe.

Norfolk Southern tells Fox 8 repairs to the fencing will happen as soon as it is practical.

Macedonia police have not said how long the area of Ledge Road will be closed.
