Lorain man appears in court for hanging death of dog

LORAIN, Ohio- The man accused of killing his dog by hanging it from a tractor-trailer appeared in court on Tuesday.

John Wayne Daughney is charged with killing or injuring animals and cruelty to companion animals. He did not enter a plea on Tuesday, although he already confessed to police.

Officers were called to the area of Euclid Avenue and River Industrial Parkway on Jan. 31. Police said they found a Mastiff-mix hanging by its choker-chain collar on the side of an empty trailer. The dog was alive when it was hanged.

Daughney is being held on a parole violation. His bond was set at $2,500.

He faces a combined sentence of nine months behind bars and $1,750 in fines.
