Local officials tell stories, remember Louis Stokes as he’s laid to rest

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Congressman Louis Stokes touched many lives during his career and his life in Cleveland.

Tuesday morning, former Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar, former Congressman Dennis Kucinich and Dr. Larry Macon Sr. stopped by Fox 8 News in the Morning to remember their friend and colleague.

Stokes, 90, passed away last week after battling cancer. His funeral was today in Cleveland.

Stokes served in World War II and attended Cleveland Marshall Law School before becoming a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

He retired in 1999 after representing the city of Cleveland and east-side communities for 30 years.
