AKRON, Ohio -- A local couple was robbed at gunpoint after responding to a Craigslist ad.

Tuesday evening, a Portage County husband and wife traveled from Atwater Township to a home on West Exchange Street in Akron to inspect a car that was advertised on Craigslist.

The couple agreed to meet at the home around 9 p.m. According to the police report, when they arrived, a man directed them to the garage to view the car. Seconds later, two other men showed up with guns in hand demanding cash. The couple told police they lost $450. The three gunmen took off running. So far, no arrests have been made.

Neighbor Pam Vargo said the house where the robbery took place is unoccupied.

"I'm shocked people would be robbed there like that," said Vargo.

This is the third Craigslist robbery that has happened in Akron over the past six months.

Police are warning potential buyers to always meet in a public location during daytime hours.

When it comes to expensive purchases, "Always be very skeptical of high value items such as vehicles or other things along those lines," said Akron Police Officer James Conley. "If you're not sure who you're dealing with, you should ask for references. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is, trust your instincts."

Anyone with information about the suspects is being asked to call Akron Police at (330) 375-2181.
