Cleveland police: Cruiser struck pedestrian, RTA bus and other vehicles when officer suffered medical emergency

CLEVELAND —  Cleveland police say one of their sergeants was involved in a crash on East 9th and Prospect at around 6:10 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the officer was on-duty, operating a Cleveland police zone car; the cruiser struck multiple vehicles including an RTA bus and a pedestrian.

A 34-year-old man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, EMS told FOX 8 News.

Cleveland police say it’s believed he suffered bruising and abrasions.

No one on the bus reported injuries.  Police say the drivers of the other vehicles reported no major injuries, though one driver may have injured an elbow.

Cleveland police it’s believed the officer suffered a medical emergency. The officer was also taken to MetroHealth for evaluation and treatment.

The incident remains under investigation.
