ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WJW) – Rocky River firefighters responded to the scene of a fire early Friday morning.

A fire broke out in the 19600 block of Lake Rd. in Rocky River just before 4 a.m.

The fire was at Mason Auto Body and Mechanical.

Rocky River Fire Chief Aaron Lenart says there was a large amount of fire showing from the building when they arrived.

They called nine additional cities for help.

The chief says it is a large complex and firefighters had accessibility issues.

They will likely be at the scene all day, he says.

Because of the volume of the fire, firefighters are doing a defensive operation and trying to protect other buildings.

No one was hurt.

The fire is under investigation.

FOX 8 has also learned the property was designated as an historical landmark in Ohio.

It is the site of the Cowan Pottery location after it moved to Rocky River.

R. Guy Cowan had a studio there from 1920 until the Great Depression.

The pottery is featured in the Smithsonian and in various displays at the Rocky River Public Library.
