Highway patrol pursuit ends in crash, leads to officer-involved shooting; no one struck

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Police searched a neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland Friday after an officer-involved shooting.

According to Cleveland police, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers tried to stop a vehicle near East 152nd Street and Waterloo shortly after 10:30 a.m. They began a pursuit with the suspects.   It was in connection with a multi-agency drug operation, according to police.

The vehicle took off and crashed at the intersection of Lakeshore and Hiller.

Police say both people in the car took off on foot and a foot pursuit was initiated which included members of the Cleveland Heights Police Department.

One suspect was located in a yard on Schenely Avenue and one shot was fired by a Cleveland Heights police officer.  The suspect was not shot and the male was taken into custody without incident.

Members of the Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team were on-scene and will investigate.

Police say the second suspect was believed to have entered another home on Schenely; however, SWAT cleared the home and no one was found.

Oliver H. Perry Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The incident remains under investigation.
