VILONIA, Ar. — A mother from Arkansas is treasuring the final texts sent by her son, one of many victims of an EF-4 tornado that hit their town April 27.

According to KNWA, Jeffrey Hunter sent his mom, Regina Wood, a series of texts as he hid in his bathroom while the tornado approached. She was 20 miles away.

She said one of the texts says “Goodbye mama,” and was sent as the tornado hit.

She texted him back several times, asking him if he was OK, but she never got a response.

Jeffrey was found unconscious on the ground, and died from his injuries. He was with his father and step-mother, but they survived.

Regina says she takes comfort in the fact that her son thought to say goodbye.
