PAINESVILLE, Ohio– Lake County General Health District wants local restaurants to be on alert for people posing as health inspectors.
The scammers call restaurants and other food-related businesses to collect credit card information for “inspection fees.” The district said its staff has photo IDs and never obtains fees over the phone.
“Staff rarely make appointments for inspections. Please be aware of this possible threat. Never give personal or inappropriate information to anyone without confirming their identity first,” the health district said in a news release on Friday.
Anyone with information should call the Lake County General Health District at 440-350-2543 and your local law enforcement agency.
