LORAIN, Ohio --

On the eve of one of the most anticipated Ohio Democratic congressional primaries in recent memory, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, Rep. Dennis Kucinich and businessman Graham Veysey tried to sway voters Monday during a debate in Toledo.

The city of Lorain is considered a swing area in the congressional district redrawn by Republicans, and it has been a battleground for Kucinich, a legend in Cleveland politics and Kaptur, Toledo's longtime favorite daughter.

They have served in Congress for a total of 44 years and some Democrats in Lorain call the choice between the two a flip of the coin.

Retiree Terry Shullick told Fox 8, "Dennis has done a lot for his area, and Marcy has done a lot for hers, so how they're going to do for ours, I don't know."

The race in Lorain County may come down to how voters perceive the records of Kaptur and Kucinich on job retention and creation, and social programs.

"[Kucinich] wants to help the ones that need help, not the rich people. The rich people don't need that much help; the poor people do," said Monique King.

Lorain resident Wayne Dovala countered, "[Kaptur’s] a lot better, and she has more knowledge."

Both candidates are considered longtime champions of labor, and for many unions, asking to choose between the two is like asking parents to pick their favorite child.

In a county where generations of families have worked in steel mills and auto plants, some union members are not even willing to reveal their choice.

“I've got it in my mind who, but I can't tell," said Jose Rivera. “When I'm ready, I'll let you know."

In the Republican primary, Samuel Wurzelbacher is facing Steven Kraus. Wurzelbacher is known as “Joe the Plumber,"  famous for asking then Senator Barack Obama about his tax policy during the 2008 Presidential campaign.
