Former Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich grilled Syria's president in an interview on the Fox News Channel Wednesday night.
Kucinich pressed Bashar al-Assad on whether or not he has chemical weapons, as al-Assad said he does.
"Do you or do you not have chemical weapons?" Kucinich asked.
"First of all, regarding what Obama and Kerry said, I dare them to say that we said no once, we never said it," al-Assad replied.
"You never said? Tell us now," Kucinich fired back.
Al-Assad skirted the issue a bit longer, saying he hadn't commented earlier because the information was considered classified, but Kucinich dug in again.
"So can you tell us now? Do you have chemical weapons or don't you?" Kucinich prodded.
"When we joined the treaty last week it means that we have, and we said, we said that, so it's not a secret anymore," came al-Assad's admission.
He maintained the weapons were not used in last months' attack on the Syrian people and blamed it on rebels who he called terrorists.
