UNITED KINGDOM — A branch of Krispy Kreme in the UK is apologizing for a “misstep” in naming a customer promotion for kids.
USA Today reports the promotion was created to get kids into the Hull, England, store during a school break. They named the promotion “KKK Wednesday,” meant to stand for “Krispy Kreme Klub.”
The promotion was posted on Facebook, and social media quickly responded back, pointing out that KKK also stands for Ku Klux Klan.
The post has since been removed.
A spokesperson for the company told USA Today: “We are truly sorry for any inconvenience or offense this misstep may have caused our fans.” It added that the location will be “taking greater precautions with their publicity materials in the future.”
