KENT, Ohio — A Kent woman has been charged with child endangering after the death of her 3-month-old baby Wednesday.

According to Kent Police Department, it happened at 555 Walter Street.

Police and paramedics were called to the apartment for reports of an infant who was not breathing. The baby was taken to the hospital, but passed away.

Kent police officers and detectives investigating the incident determined there was probable cause to arrest the baby’s mother, Samantha Knisley, who faces a charge of child endangering.

Police say Knisley is accused of laying on top of the baby.

She appeared in Portage County court Thursday morning where bond was set at $200,000.

The investigation is still underway, but more charges are expected.

Editor’s note: court documents state Knisley is accused of intentionally laying on the baby; however, police gave an update to FOX 8’s Dave Nethers on Thursday afternoon and said they are still investigating whether or not it was intentional. (Script updated on 9.14.17 at 2:30 p.m.)
