AKRON, Ohio — A northeast Ohio jury has recommended that a 23-year-old man get 25 years to life in prison for the April 2013 slayings of four people at an Akron townhome.
A judge will sentence Deshanon Haywood of Akron on July 24. Jurors could have recommended a death sentence.
The same jury convicted Haywood of four counts of aggravated murder June 19.
It was his second trial. Convictions from last fall were vacated because of concerns about prosecutorial misconduct. Cuyahoga County prosecutors took over the case.
A second defendant, 23-year-old Derrick Brantley, was sentenced to life in prison last summer for the drug-related slayings. Haywood testified at his latest trial that Brantley shot two men and two women ranging in age from 19 to 24 in the basement of the townhome.
