A judge sentenced Michael Sutton in Painesville Municipal Court Monday morning. Sutton will also spend five years on probation and is not allowed to own animals during that time.
Judge Michael Cicconetti during sentencing called Sutton “brutal” and “savage.”
Police were called to the Washington Square Apartments on Washington Street on May 3 for a deceased animal complaint. When they arrived, they were told a puppy was found in a trash compactor.
Officers then identified Sutton as the owner and said he confessed to throwing the dog out the window. The puppy was purchased as a Mother’s Day gift for Sutton’s mother.
Sutton pleaded guilty in the case last week.
