CLEVELAND– Cleveland Indians legend Jim Thome and his wife Andrea are teaming up with a nonprofit to help victims of the devastating wildfires around Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
The fires have killed 14 people and injured dozens more while destroying hundreds of buildings around the tourist destination.
The Thomes plan to personally deliver handmade comfort quilts from Mission of Love. The organization frequently provides quilts to those affected by natural disasters.
Andrea Thome recently wrote a book called “Walland,” set in the Tennesee town of the same name. The area is extremely special to the Thome family so she decided to donate all her December sales from the book to fire relief efforts.
Jim and Andrea Thome are donating an additional $10,000. The couple announced on Tuesday they will also match donations made by Dec. 15 to their Hit Two Foundation up to $20,000.
