BROOKLYN, Ohio – If all goes as planned, drivers on I-480 might be seeing a Swedish flag flying alongside the American flag. We’re talking about the steps being taken to possibly bring an IKEA to Brooklyn. IKEA recently filed a permit Army Corp of Engineers.
“We’re thrilled. We’ve been working on this for a little over a year. Something like IKEA coming to Brooklyn is not only good for Brooklyn, it’s good for the whole county, it’s good for this part of the state of Ohio”, said Brooklyn Mayor Richard Balbier.
Earlier in July IKEA Property Incorporated filed with the Army Corp of Engineers for permission to build a 366 thousand square foot facility on 23 acres in Brooklyn. If approved the new store would be located right behind the Plain Dealer building on Tiedeman and I-480.
Currently the nearest IKEA is 113 miles away in Pittsburgh.
