AUSTIN, Texas– A couple is upset after what they saw written on an IHOP receipt.

Arainia Brown and her boyfriend, Rolman Sparkman, told KVUE that they were shocked to see the words, “BLACK PPL,” at the top of the receipt.

“I feel upset. I’m sad. I’m angry. Like this, it makes no sense,” Brown said. She shared what happened on Facebook and her post has been shared over 14,000 times.

The couple said they will no longer eat at IHOP because of what happened.

IHOP released the following statement to KVUE:

“This was a poor choice made by our franchisee’s team member, and is not in keeping with policies and procedures. We recognize that it could be offensive and apologize. Everyone is welcome in our restaurants and our franchisee is using this as a teachable moment for the entire team so that it will not reoccur.”
