CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland police officials confirm to the FOX 8 I-Team an investigation is underway concerning “inappropriate social media posts” by an officer.

Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia, senior public information officer for the Cleveland Division of Police, told the I-Team Sunday the matter involving Officer Ismail Quran has been referred to the Cleveland Division of Police Internal Affairs Unit for a “thorough investigation.”

Quran is alleged to have posted anti-Semitic posts on his social media accounts prior to working as a police officer for Cleveland.

“The Cleveland Division of Police insists that officers provide the highest levels of professionalism and respect to all citizens,” Ciaccia said. “Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. “

She said the officer is currently assigned to administrative duties with no contact with the public.

“These tweets are from over a decade ago,” said Jeff Follmer, president of the Cleveland’s police union. “He is an amazing police officer. Ismail was policeman of the year in 2019 and assisted in many investigations. He is an asset to the Cleveland community that he serves.”

Canary Mission, an antisemitism watchdog organization that documents people and groups that promote hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews, exposed the officer’s comments and issued a press release about the matter last week.

“While we are aware that the dates of Quran’s posts are a few years old, the extreme nature of the posts and his extreme hatred of Jews makes it very relevant. Quran tweeted many of these hateful posts after he had already begun his police training, and the fact he is an active police officer is very alarming.“

They added Quran’s tweets are not from 10 years ago, “many ranging from 7-8 years ago.”

“They were posted only after he had already taken an exam required to become a police officer. As in, after he knew he wanted to become a policeman. Quran was still tweeting things like ‘Scumbag Yahoodi [Jew],’ ‘…**** THE ZIONIST JEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!  ***** A** MOTHER  *******and “…****that Jew. Say something!’ This last tweet featured an image of Hitler with a caption that read: ‘LET ME SALUTE TO HITLER THE GREAT.

“Quran’s tweets are so egregious and show his clear disdain for the Jewish people. He is not fit for his position. Especially since these tweets were live on his account until Canary Mission exposed them last Thursday. It is a shame that the president of Cleveland’s police union is so focused on protecting an antisemitic police officer, rather than protecting the Jews in Cleveland. Why doesn’t Follmer instead ask the Jewish community if they consider Quran to be an asset while he tweets out ‘Scumbag Yahoodi [Jew].'”
