CLEVELAND - The FOX 8 I TEAM has obtained a video posted online showing how easy it can be to break into a new Cleveland Police building, a building that’s had a series of security issues.
The new Cleveland Police Third District Headquarters opened in August. Yet the I TEAM has found locks not working. In fact, for a while police had officers taken off patrol to guard the back door.
Then Monday morning, a video surfaced on YouTube. A dispatcher showed how anyone could simply turn a knob and walk into the building. No key or swipe card needed.
Union President Steve Loomis said, "I want everybody in the world to know all they need to do is pop that latch open and walk in. Get on that unsecured elevator and get into that unsecured radio room."
The building houses police officers and dispatchers. In fact, weeks ago, dispatchers complained a stranger had wandered into their radio room.
This video surfaced one day after someone broke into an officer’s personal car in the back parking lot of the same building. The crook stole a policeman’s badge and ID.
The I TEAM went to city hall. Assistant Safety Director Tim Hennessey said contractors are reprogramming lock systems and addressing all of the issues.
However, the city still has not determined when all of the problems will be fixed, they are simply hoping to make it happen soon.
The dispatcher in the video had no comment.
