CLEVELAND – The Fox 8 I-Team has learned an internal investigation is underway to determine how a Cleveland police cruiser was stolen early Saturday.
Police say the cruiser was taken from the old Third District police station around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police discovered the cruiser had been stolen after a man called 9-1-1 saying a Cleveland Police Department car almost hit him.
“My first instinct was get out of the way,” said Tony Singleton of Cleveland. “I didn’t know if I was going to get hit or not, and another guy was about to cross the street, he froze and I dove.”
Owners of a store on East 116th say the stolen cruiser crashed into their building, before it became disabled a few blocks away.
The cruiser has major damage to the left front side.
Police arrested 29-year-old Anthony Benson of Cleveland on a charge of theft.
