CLEVELAND – The FOX 8 I TEAM has learned the city of Cleveland has started an internal investigation into evil comments about 12-year-old Tamir Rice posted on the Facebook page of a supervisor for the city’s Emergency Medical Service.

Cleveland Police shot and killed Tamir Rice outside the Cudell Rec Center in 2014. He had an airsoft pistol that looked like a powerful handgun, and police believed he reached for the weapon as they approached. In December, the officers were cleared of any criminal charges.

Monday, a startling posting surfaced from the Facebook account for an EMS supervisor. It included, “Tamir Rice should have been shot and I am glad he is dead. I wish I was in the park that day as he terrorized innocent patrons by pointing a gun at them. I am upset I did not get the chance to kill the little criminal (expletive).”

Later though, a post that said in part, “Someone…picked up my phone and made some awful posts under my name. I want to apologize for those who thought it was me. I do not believe or stand for what was written.”

Nonetheless, Cleveland City Hall says its Office of Integrity Control began investigating Monday.

The I TEAM is not naming the EMS supervisor at least until we get the results of the city investigation. Meantime, the city says that boss will remain on the job full-time as this plays out.

Cleveland NAACP President Mike Nelson said, “If he’s making these statements and making them boldly and publicly, then it’s setting a dangerous precedent, and it’s a cause for great concern.”

Nelson added, “People of consciousness and good will are gonna have to become more visible and vocal to start drowning out the voices of intolerance.”’

The I TEAM also reviewed postings on the same Facebook account made after Officer Michael Brelo was cleared in a different police shooting. One posting was “Victory…”.

We left messages in two places for the supervisor but have not heard back.
