CLEVELAND– The FOX 8 I-TEAM has uncovered yet another security breach at Hopkins Airport and this time police say a man climbed a fence and got into a restricted area.

This comes weeks after a driver plowed through a fence and went into the airfield, yet airport security never noticed. And months ago, two city administrators were disciplined by Cleveland City Hall for bypassing security at the airport.

In the latest case, police arrested 22-year-old Joseph Robinson.

Records show Saturday morning he “did climb over the security fence at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport leading to the traffic control tower onto a restricted area.”

And, once more, there is reason to question whether there was a delay in dealing with an airport intruder. Records show the time of the crime was 6:20 a.m. and the time of the arrest was  7:02 a.m.

Robinson has only been charged with criminal trespass. That is a misdemeanor charge barely more than a traffic ticket.

The I-TEAM checked, and for the initial charge, the suspect in this case faces only a maximum sentence of a fine up to a couple hundred dollars along with several days jail.

Cleveland police say they determined there was no terroristic threat in the latest case. Federal investigators said police told them it appears the man was drunk or high.

We tried to reach Robinson, but we had no luck. In fact, court records show he got out of jail the day of his arrest and then didn’t show up for court.

Now there is a warrant out for his arrest.

The Transportation Security Administration will review how the city handled the latest case as well as the one last month.

This week the I-TEAM approached the airport director at City Hall with questions about security, and he refused to answer. He referred us to the Mayor’s Office. Yet, on multiple days last week, we had sent detailed questions to the Mayor’s Office, and have received no response. We also sent questions to the Mayor’s Office in reference to the latest security breach, and again, did not receive a response.
