NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, OH -- An officer injured in a crash on I-77 Friday evening is expected to be okay.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at Fleet Avenue.

Chief John Majoy tells Fox 8 the officer, Shawn Finch, 41 was attempting to make a traffic stop when a vehicle came at him at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle hit the back of the police cruiser, causing it to spin out. The pickup truck flipped further down the road.

Both the officer and the driver of the pickup truck were taken to the hospital.

Chief Majoy says according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation, alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

Officer Finch, who is an Army veteran, is banged up, according to Chief Majoy, and is expected to be off work for a period of time.

According to the Chief, the officer should be released from the hospital late Friday or early Saturday morning.
