MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio– Interstate 71 south at state Route 18 in Montville Township has reopened following a multi-car crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it happened at about 1:50 p.m. at mile marker 217 and involved a semi-truck.

According to Montville police, three medical helicopters are expected at the scene to take patients to hospitals.

Drivers should avoid the area. The highway will be closed for several hours, police said.

As of 3:50 p.m. the Ohio Department of Transportation said that one lane of traffic should be openly shortly. However, they encourage motorists to use an alternate route.

As of 5:05 p.m. the Montville Police Department said All three lanes of Interstate 71 are still closed.  However, they anticipate opening one lane within the next 20 minutes.

ODOT announced that the interstate had officially reopened around 8:30 p.m.
