MOSS LANDING, CA – Two kayakers got a bit up close and personal with a humpback whale – and we’re going to say that the whale won the encounter.
The close encounter happened over the weekend on a Sanctuary Cruise kayak trip in Moss Bay, California. According to the cruise company, the group of kayakers came upon a “a large aggregation of humpbacks feeding and carrying on with random acts of hijinks.” The whales were swimming between and around the group, when one of them decided to make a splash in a way that only whales can.
A fellow kayaker happened to be taping the encounter and caught the massive animal as it breached the water and sent the kayaking pair swimming. They weren’t hurt by the incident, but they now have a great story to tell.
