NORTHFIELD CENTER, OH – Two adults and two children are confirmed dead  after a house explosion in Northfield Center Monday evening.

The deaths were confirmed by Northfield Center Township Fire Chief Frank Risko to Fox 8’s Kevin Freeman.

The fire department was called to the scene on Skyhaven Drive at around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a gas explosion. When they arrived, the house  was completely engulfed in flames. They were told that people might still be inside, but the extensive fire prevented them from going in.

Chief Risko confirmed that a couple and their two children have been recovered inside the home. According to Chief Risko,  the man was found in the back of the home hours after the explosion, the mother and two girls, ages 8 and 12,  were found in the front of the home.

The exact cause of the explosion has not been determined yet, but state fire marshals are on the scene to assist with the investigation.  Officials with the gas company do not believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak.

The identity of the individuals living in the home is not being released at this time.

Fox 8 news spoke with a neighbor who lives across the street from the home. She said that the force of the explosion shook her house.
