NORTHFIELD, Ohio - A horse ran away from Northfield Park on Sunday around 3 p.m. after finding his way out of the gates during a practice session, according to the Director of Racing at Northfield Park.

The horse, appropriately named Quik Groom, made his way through the gate and onto Route 8.

The Nemec family was stopped at a red light in their car when they saw the horse canter by.

"At first we were laughing and startled obviously, but then a little concerned for the people who were driving because it was going the wrong way on the road,” said Carl Nemec, who was able to capture the running horse on camera.

"It was kind of the night at the races gone wild."

Macedonia police and Northfield Village police worked together to trap Quik Groom within just moments of his escape, and he was finally captured near the Northfield Post Office.

Trainers were able to approach him without any issues. The horse was not injured during his getaway.

He has since been returned to the track and he is scheduled to race on Monday.
