MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH — Hospital employees held a special reunion Sunday afternoon for dozens of families whose children spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Sunday, Hillcrest Hospital’s NICU held a reunion for 30 families who were the first to experience the new unit when it opened.

Parents had the opportunity to be reunited with the caregivers who offered support during their children’s treatment.

There was plenty of fun for the kids too, including games, fire truck and ambulance tours and a stuffed teddy bear to take home.

“It’s very exciting to have everybody back,” said Nurse Manager Maryann Yavor. “This is the class of 2011 so we like them to come back when they’re toddlers. It means so much to see them when they’re grown up and big and chubby and running around. Love to see the parents. I think it means more to the nurses and doctors to see how great they look.”

The state-of-the-art unit has 35 beds and accommodates special-needs babies such as those with breathing problems and problems associated with low-birth weights.
