BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio — As Black History Month draws to a close, the city of Bedford Heights is honoring the achievements and contributions of African-American women.

Bedford Heights’ Department of Community Life Tuesday organized a celebration of heroic black women throughout American history, from Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, and now, First Lady Michelle Obama.

“We are all a fabric, woven together to make a great big, beautiful tapestry of history, of our lives, our struggles, our richness our families and our American history,” said Ruth Gray, director of the Bedford Heights Department of Community Life.

The event featured performances by both the Bedford High School Orchestra and Madrigal Singers.
