LORAIN, OH – Melissa Cantu said she was looking on Facebook one day when she stumbled across a story FOX 8 aired back in March.

It was about a high school volleyball player named Leah Cordy. Leah had been dealing with heart issues for a while and had never been successfully diagnosed, but that all changed when she met Dr. Peter Aziz from the Cleveland Clinic. He discovered she had an irregular heartbeat and cured it with a catheter ablation.

“I sent it to my daughter and she looked at it and she was like mom, she explains exactly what's happening to me,” Melissa recalled.

She said her 14-year-old daughter Gaby had every symptom Leah described. She too had been told by other doctors that she was fine. And....they both play volleyball.

"All the doctors would say I had nothing wrong. I was like okay, then there is nothing wrong, but when I saw that and it was actually something you can name. I was like oh my gosh, that's crazy,” said Gaby.

Melissa and Gaby decided to meet with Dr. Aziz at the Cleveland Clinic, and sure enough, Gaby had an irregular heartbeat too.

"It turns out they wanted to do an ablation therapy which is what Leah wanted to do as well, and we found the same exact arrhythmia in the same spot in Gaby's body as we found in Leah's body,” said Dr. Aziz.

Gaby had the procedure done about five weeks ago and all went well.

Melissa said she’s thankful for that and for FOX 8’s coverage of Leah’s story.

"I mean it's absolutely amazing how fast we went from years of battling this to we met the doctor, had the procedure and she's been normal since April 30th,” she said.

Gaby didn’t just get her health back, she also made a new friend. She and Leah met for the first time not too long ago.

“She was so nice about everything,” said Leah.

Dr. Aziz encourages parents to listen to their kids when they say something is wrong.
