CLEVELAND (WJW) — A man opened fire Tuesday morning in his apartment building across directly across from Cleveland State University, prompting a city police and SWAT response.
Officers responded at about 10 a.m. Tuesday to Milton Manor Apartments, 2344 Prospect Ave. E., on a report that a tenant fired through his apartment door at a building worker who knocked on the door, according to a city police spokesperson.
The university, in an alert, urged students to stay away from the area and stated police on-scene had “contained” the suspect. Prospect Avenue between East 22nd and East 24th streets, including the Prospect Garage, was closed to traffic.
The man fired again at SWAT officers who knocked on his door, according to city police.
Officers used a Taser to take the suspect into custody. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police did not report any injuries.
The 60-year-old suspect’s identity was not released Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 11:30 a.m., the road and garage were reopened and police cleared the scene.
“Police have resolved the emergency,” reads a later alert sent by the university. “Resume normal activity.”
