MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio– A motion was filed in Medina County Probate Court on Friday on behalf of a woman who was appointed guardianship of an Amish child battling cancer.

Maria Schimer, who has the authority to make medical decisions for the young girl, filed the motion asking that her guardianship status be dropped because the girl and her parents have been missing since October; so treatment isn’t an option.

The court still has to approve the motion.

The young girl’s last round of treatment was in June. With treatment, doctors have said she has an 85% chance of survival. Without it, doctors say the cancer will kill her.
