CLEVELAND- The group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for taking down the City of Cleveland website.

In a video posted to YouTube, the group says, “Today we have recently learned of the tragic death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who got shot twice in the stomach for having a BB gun and whose fate was decided by an overzealous rookie officer… The Cleveland police department has refused to release the name of this child’s murderer…. ” You can watch the YouTube video above.

Tamir E. Rice died Sunday after being shot in the abdomen in the playground of Cleveland’s Cudell Recreation Center Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to reports of a male waving and pointing what appeared to be a gun at people in the playground.

Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association President Jeff Follmer said when officers arrived at the scene, they commanded the boy to put his hands up.

Instead, police said he reached into his waistband for what appeared to be a gun, and an officer fired at him.

Police then learned Rice had been in possession of an airsoft gun.

Follmer said the officers’ actions were justified.

Police spoke about the shooting at a press conference Monday, sending condolences to the Rice family.

Surveillance video of the incident is not being released at this time.

The City of Cleveland has released a statement, which reads, in part, “a no point was the content or control of the website ever compromised. The City of Cleveland and our website vendor are reviewing the incident and determining proper preventative measures to be added in order to ensure future attacks are thwarted. The website will be accessible when that assessment is completed and those measures are in place.”
