CHICAGO — The Cook County medical examiner’s office says a U.S. Army parachutist injured in the Chicago Air & Water Show has died.
Investigator Mario Johnson says that Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood, 32, was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Hood was from Cincinnati, Ohio and has been with the Army since 2001.
Hood was with the Golden Knights for four years.
Authorities say he and Timmy Holland, 29, collided while performing a stunt Saturday. Witnesses said at least one of the men clipped the top of a high-rise apartment. Holland was treated for a broken leg.
Holland’s parents told WGN that their son was diving at about 120 miles per hour when he attempted to open his parachute and collided with Hood.
