AVON LAKE, Ohio — Always very proud of his alma mater, St. Edward, longtime Fox 8 Sports Reporter Danny Coughlin had to be beaming with pride on Friday night at a party center in Avon Lake.

The loquacious television journalist was inducted into the St. Edward Sports Hall of Fame.

“I feel uncomfortable going in because I was not an athlete, but I have interviewed many of them over the years,” said Coughlin, the father of four children.

Coughlin has had a long and storied career as a sports columnist and television sportscaster.  He spent many years reporting on sports for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

After a short stint as a columnist for the now defunct Cleveland Press, Coughlin began a highly successful career as a television sports commentator at Fox 8.

He has won numerous professional awards, including Emmys and honors from the Press Club of Cleveland, of which he is a member of their Hall of Fame.

On two occasions he was honored as the Sportswriter of the Year in the state of Ohio.

In the past two years, since retiring from full-time duty at Fox 8, Coughlin has entertained viewers with his dynamic delivery of highlights on Emmy Award-winning Friday Night Touchdown.

He has written two books since leaving television full-time:  “Crazy with the Papers to Prove it” and “Pass the Nuts.”

Both books were big sellers in the Cleveland market.
