Five indicted for recent robberies in Tremont neighborhood

CLEVELAND- Five men were indicted on aggravated robbery charges for a series of crimes in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said on Monday.

Prosecutor Timothy McGinty held a news conference Monday afternoon with local law enforcement officials to discuss the case. He said he didn’t know why the Tremont area was targeted.

“Tremont is the wrong place for a robber right now. It’s the last place they should go,” McGinty said.

Police arrested Kenneth Jackson, 18, Antowine R. Palmer, 22, Tervon’tae Taylor, 22, and D’Wan L. Dillard. Calvin Rembert, 22, remains at large. They’ve been indicted on 25 counts, including aggravated robbery, kidnapping and felonious assault.

“This is a significant step in stopping these chronic robberies,” McGinty said. “We’re going to put them away until they’re old men.”

McGinty said the suspects attacked a bartender, carjacked a couple and stole both their cars, pistol whipped a man, and stole a Porsche. He said it appears the crimes were gang-related.

“Although great success has been achieved,” McGinty said, “there is still work to be done.”
