CLEVELAND – Could Cleveland be the next Brooklyn? Fortune Magazine thinks so. They claim the odds are about 63 percent.

The magazine recently released its list of ‘2014’s Break Out and Break Down Towns.’

In it, they go on to explain their reasoning behind the big prediction. They point out that there’s a downtown revival going on right now, plus major growth in three of Cleveland’s neighborhoods: Ohio City, Tremont, and Gordon Square.

“Well I’ve never lived in Brooklyn so I couldn’t really speak on that,” said Cleveland State University Student Evan Schultz. “But I think that Cleveland more or less wants to be its own kind of place. I don’t think they want to be another Brooklyn. I think they just want to be Cleveland.”

Others, like Brandon Stanley, thought the prediction was fairly accurate. He’s been going downtown for years and said he’s seen a lot of change.

“It’s coming up. Money’s coming in. It’s started to get bigger. And a lot of people are moving in and businesses are getting bigger. The casino helps, too,” he said.

Positively Cleveland, an organization that promotes tourism, was thrilled with the list. Its Communications Manager, Jennifer Kramer, said everyone has worked hard to get the city back on the map.

“I think Cleveland is very easily dismissed as a tourist destination or as a visitor destination, so what we really want to do is change that story,” she said.

Kramer said there’s still more work to be done; they’re always trying to recruit more people and businesses to the area.

“To be thought of as something that’s growing to that kind of potential, it’s a great compliment for us,” she said.
