ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — An ice jam on the Rocky River in Rocky River gave rushing water nowhere to go and it overflowed into the parking lot of the Emerald Necklace Marina on Friday morning.

Around 1 p.m., police said the jam broke free and was moving toward the lake.

Early Friday morning, residents living in the basin area (South Island Drive, Riverdale Drive and Yacht Club Drive) were told to prepare to evacuate if necessary.

Once the jam broke free, police sounded their sirens and once again went door to door to let residents know to leave the area if they were concerned.

The evacuations were voluntary.

Some people in Rocky River had already taken precaution by moving important things to the second floor.

Rain is adding to the snow melt causing flooding concerns across the viewing area.

Two days ago the Chagrin River in Eastlake was still frozen without about a foot of ice on top and huge mounds of snow that were easily chest high.

The snow has melted considerably and the river's surface looked rather soft and slushy as of Friday morning.

WEATHER ALERTS: Flood Warnings, Flood Watches and Wind Advisories

The rain tapered off somewhat so without a sudden increase in water levels or chunks of ice suddenly breaking loose and jamming things up everybody should be fine.

And while that appears to be the case, people in Eastlake would rather prepare for the worst.

They've been through it before and while they enjoy the beauty that mother nature creates, they don't want to see it dumped in their basements.

In Willoughby, officials have closed Daniels Park as a precaution. The following roads have been closed:

- Apollo Parkway- Industrial Businesses
- Lost Nation Road at Gilson Parkway
- Daniels Park: (North & South) -SR 84 is currently open for travel

The Willoughby Police Department has activated a Reverse 911 for those businesses and residences in the above affected areas warning people of the road closures and flooding issues.

Just south of Cleveland, people who live near the Cuyahoga River in Valley View were also on high alert.
