CHAGRIN FALLS-- If you are suffering from the flu right now, there's a tasty treat that may ease your pain.
It's called "Influenza Sorbet" and it's become quite popular especially with the flu bug spreading across Northeast Ohio.
"Hmmm, that's really good," said Libby Tackacs of Chagrin Falls.

People really enjoy "Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream's" seasonal flavor "Influenza Sorbet."

The Ohio-based ice cream maker created the sorbet to fight flu symptoms.

Scoopers in Chagrin Falls like the tasty treat. "It's a nice treat, something light on your stomach. Generally, when you have the flu, you don't wanna eat a whole lot," said Candice Wood of Shaker Heights.

The flu-fighting sorbet is a mixture of some interesting ingredients: there's cayenne pepper, ground ginger, "Maker's Mark bourbon", honey, orange and lemon juices; plus pectin.

"Well after just trying a bite, I can already feel it kinda tingling in my throat a little bit. It seems like it has a lot of citrus, Vitamin C- perfect for a flu," said Tackacs.

A doctor said the ingredients may relieve some of the flu-like symptoms, but it's not a cure. "This sorbet kinda has some of the things that we would recommend people try if they actually had the flu symptoms, things like ginger to settle your stomach down a little bit, honey which can be soothing to the throat ya know, help soothe that cough so it has some interesting ingredients ya know in terms of giving people relief from symptoms, but doesn't have anything that is preventive" said Dr. Christine Alexander of MetroHealth Medical Center.

Dr. Alexander said even though the sorbet can be helpful, she recommends some people stay away from it since it has bourbon as an ingredient.

"There is alcohol in it, so it's not meant for everybody. Pregnant women, children, elderly, anybody that has addiction issues, I probably wouldn't recommend that they try it," said Dr. Alexander.

"Jeni's" sent us a statement about their unique flavor:
"The restorative sorbet is inspired by Jeni Britton Bauer's family elixir of hot whiskey with honey and lemon juice for anyone feeling under the weather. She debuted the flavor in 2004"
The ice cream will be available through flu season until about March.
It's only sold by the pint, which costs $10 at "Jeni's" in Chagrin Falls.
