CLEVELAND – The Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted five people for taking part in several ATM smash and grabs over the past 16 months.

Derielle Jones, Troskey Banks, Malik Ward, Jaquel Warner and Dashawn Garner were indicted on numerous counts including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

The indictment states the thefts began in July 2015 and continued through November 7, 2016.

The five are accused of targeting non-bank ATM machines that are placed in businesses such as gas stations, convenience stores, pharmacies, and other small businesses.

The defendants are also accused of stealing SUV’s and removing the passenger seats so the vehicles could be used in the thefts of the ATM’s.

“After scouting out a target business and associated ATM, members drive to the target location with the stolen vehicle in the dark, early hours of the morning,” the indictment states. “When the members arrive, the member driving the stolen vehicle positions itself close to the front of the business. The stolen vehicle then accelerates in revers most times, quickly through the storefront and rams the ATM machine. The ATM machine is often jarred from its anchoring during the process. The members quickly exit the vehicle and load the ATM machine into a stolen vehicle and leave the scene.”

Detectives are continuing to investigate ATM thefts around the Cleveland area. Additional arrests could be made soon.
