PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — A former corrections officer at the Portage County Jail has been charged with assaulting an inmate.

According to Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak, Connie Y. Sutton, of Akron, has been indicted on a charge of felonious assault

Doak says the charge stems from an incident at the Portage County Jail between Sutton and a female inmate, Holly Anderson, 23, of Ravenna Township.

According to Doak, Anderson needed to be transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital as a result of the incident. Anderson was treated for her injuries and released.

Sutton surrendered to authorities on Tuesday at the Portage County Jail.

According to Doak, Sutton was then booked and subsequently arraigned in the Portage County Common Please Court. She has been released on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond with conditions of no contact with any inmates at the jail facility or other witnesses in the case.

Doak says that Sutton’s employment at the Portage County Jail was terminated as a result of the investigation.
