3 Cats Die, Dozens Saved in Fire at Animal Rescue

MANSFIELD, Ohio — Mansfield Fire Department officials say three cats died and 42 cats were saved in a fire at an animal rescue Friday night.

The fire was reported at about 6:30 p.m. at Stop the Overpopulation of Pets Inc. (STOP) on Lexington Avenue.

Mansfield police said the fire started in the basement and resulted in visible smoke outside.

Eight cats were still unaccounted for as of about 10 p.m.
