CLEVELAND– Cleveland police are still on the hunt for the person or people who fired shots outside a neighborhood grocery store, injuring a woman who was nine-months pregnant.

Christine McCoy, 24, is still recovering at MetroHealth Medical Center, listed in fair condition, after being shot in the side of her face, inside the Garden Valley Food Mart on East 79th Street around 9 Thursday night.

McCoy and another woman, Lawanna Coachman, 28, were about to make a purchase when gunshots were heard outside the store.

Several bullets entered the store. McCoy was shot in the face; Coachman was shot in the arm. She has been released from the hospital.

Witnesses outside the store said someone starting firing from a gray Ford Focus at two men standing outside the store.  The women apparently were not the intended targets.

McCoy gave birth to a baby girl by emergency C-section. A clerk inside the store is being credited with saving their lives.

McCoy’s family released the following statement to FOX 8, “I urge the shooter to turn him or herself in. We can’t have bullets flying around our streets like this. Incidents like this put innocent lives at risk – like those of my daughter and granddaughter. I forgive whoever did this. I just ask them to do the right thing and turn themselves in. It’s not random. It’s often.”

The store has several surveillance cameras and has turned over the video to police to help in the investigation.
